The album is a treat. Energetic, original, fun, and liberally adorned with magnetic hooks thoughtfully layered by engineer/producer (and bassist) Matt Bernstein. The deep and impressive recording is a testament to the blood, sweat, and tears poured into it. No one could ever guess that the bulk of the work came out of a home studio featuring a closet for an isolation booth. By splurging on a Manley Labs mic pre, and a kickass mastering session atThe Lodge, the wind-up delivered an exceptional record for a fraction of what it would have cost a less resourceful, less talented band. Kudos.

MAKEITBETTER REMIXES WEB 500x500 The Knocks Make It Better + Remixes!!

I’m not sure if this has become obvious or not but I really love The Knocks. “Make It Better”, being released under Neon Gold Records, is the second track the boys are dropping from their string of summer singles and it BUMPS. The song sounds like it could be the theme music to a retro beach party (hence the single artwork). A breezy summer jam that makes you wanna drink something with a tiny umbrella and find a hot girl in a yellow polka dot bikini to dance with. The boys deliver on their promise, this song will definitely make it better, whatever your it may be.

The Knocks have some special guests (Samuel, Pink Ganter, DOM, Emil & Friends to name a few) who remixed the tune making for an eclectic buncha variations. Enjoy the song and a couple of remixes below and get all The Knock music your heart desires here

And that glow-in-the-dark image above is what’s set to grace its cover. According to press materials Pitchfork found in their mailbag, Mr. David Portner/Tare’s “favorite animals are the otter and crocodile [and] the latter has played a big role in his newest record.
” The LP is scheduled to drop via Animal Collective’s Paw Tracks imprint come October 26. There is bound to be a lot of yawping and yelping and hopefully, with some luck, liner note art that features otters sculpted entirely of gauze. Those are very cute.

What better way to follow up a post about The Black Keys? Two more of my favorite bands with “Black” in their names have released new tracks for all us PC users to right click and download. Both have albums scheduled for release on September 14th. These two bands would be a fantastic pairing on tour together.

Black Mountain’s upcoming release, Wilderness Heart, is scheduled for release on September 14th.

Until about five minutes ago, I never heard of rapper Rain. This video has me thinking I should have heard of him a lot sooner. Over a bluesy, stomping Blakroc beat accompanied by some nice imagery, Rain gives a glimpse into what he’s about.

Check out a freestyle video from Rain here, and you can download his mixtape, American Dreamin’ 3 here. Continue reading »
